Prior understanding counts. So when we were engaged to create an initial design concept in response to an Expression of Interest submission for Nissan’s new national head office, we recalled our Director’s personal experience designing the head office for their competitor – Mazda Australia – whose building sits incidentally right across the road from the proposed site!
Nissan’s brief was to create an architectural response that was iconic, but also which countered the uniqueness of Mazda’s building. For us, it not only represented a chance to dig deep applying our previous learnings, but also responding to the development feasibility from our client’s perspective. Therefore, our design response not only satisfied the complex functional requirements of Nissan, but also provided additional speculative office areas to co-locate but functionally segregate from Nissan, in order to assist our client to put forward a financially compelling, and ultimately a winning, design proposal to Nissan.
Combining our acute understanding of development feasibility and design excellence ultimately provided a successful outcome for our client.
